This have been prevention week but 801 fire ‘^o.bXT ° tten ^^ Pag* Printed In the THERMAL BELT of Western North Carolina TRYON, N.C 28782 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14,1982 Tryon PTA Meets Thursday The Tryon PTA will hear speaker Dr. Charles Petty on “The Role of the Family in the Educational Development of the Child.” The meeting will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the newly-remodeled auditorium of the Tryon Elementary School. Dr. Petty is the Executive Director for the North Carolina Governor’s Office of Citizen Affairs. He is also a family conference leader and will offer suggestions for all parents. A short feature of the meeting will be numbers of the Kindergarten and Elementary School Choruses under the direction of Mrs. Karen Killough and Mrs. Emmy Mackay. Girl Scout Troop 452 under the direction of Mrs. Pat Thompson will present and retire the colours. Mrs. Judy Placak, head of the nominating committee, will present a slate of officers and board members for the 1982-83 PTA school year. A door prize contributed by Mrs. Judy Lair will be presented and classes will compete for a Party based on the number of parents who attend. During the meeting, a movie will be shown for youngsters to allow parents to attend the general meeting. Landrum Students Attend Choral Clinic CULLOWHEE - Several members of the Landrum High School chorus, directed by Dean Brown, recently participated in the Second Annual High School Choral Clinic at Western Carolina University. Sponsored by WCU s department of music, the clinic culminated in mass choral concert combining the talents of the nine North and South Carolnia high school groups The clinic was organized and conducted by Dr. Robert A.
